| Folks, steroids in sports really is news
Turn back the calendar three decades. East Germany was setting the world on its ear, turning out top athletes at an astonishing rate. At first we marveled at the rigorous training that began at early childhood and the vast sports centers that provided would-be Olympians with the finest equipment, facilities, coaching and doctors. But there were signs that training and equipment alone couldn't account for the extraordinary muscle development and amazing performances. By the mid-1970s, when East German swimmers came to compete with Americans in Concord, experts were wondering publicly whether steroids were at play. The doubts grew louder, the headlines grew bigger. By the time the Berlin Wall fell, it was evident that East Germany had conducted a national program of doping athletes, a way to succeed in sport and demonstrate the superiority of the socialist system.
Sex attack Cadet leader jailed
AN AIR Cadet leader who sexually assaulted a 15-year-old boy during an expedition has been jailed for two years. Supporters watching from a packed public gallery wept in disbelief as Christopher Day, a squadron leader for the Wanstead and Woodford Air Training Corps (ATC), was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday. A wounded-looking Day hurriedly left the dock as the gavel sounded, escaping public view for a few moments before he was brought back in to the courtroom and ordered to sign on the sex offenders' register for 10 years. Judge Sasha Wass told Day: "You were commanding officer and you manipulated events so that you shared a bed. "You abused your position of trust and worse than that you abused the power you had over the young cadet." "I have seen him give evidence in this case.
My Birthday Wish: Not Burdening Our Children
It's official. As of today, at 6 a.m., I am a half-century old. Special thanks go to my mom for bringing me into the world back in 1958 and for looking after me all these years. But she doesn't need to worry about me anymore. My welfare now falls within the mission statement of AARP. Some years ago, I read on a birthday card that you know you are old when you spend more time thinking about money than sex. If so, we economists must age prematurely. After all, it's our job to think about money, both our own and other people's. .

The service pack already went out to testers; volume English-language customers will be receiving it before the end of the week, and MSDN and TechNet subscribers will receive it by the end of the month. One key question on Windows Vista users' minds is exactly how does Windows post SP1 measure up against the initial copy of Windows Vista in terms of performance. In initial testing at CNET Labs, the results are in, and they are rather mixed. Testers found that while SP1 improves performance under some condition, it actually decreases performance under others. For the most part, testers concluded, few will notice the difference between the base installation and an SP1 installed system. Vista does offer bundled updated third party drivers which do upgrade performance significantly, but most of these were already available. Customers who have kept current with Window's Updates and their third party driver updates will find little new here, and thus will see no real performance change. Microsoft definitely can take credit in a big picture sense for providing improved performance, though, as it has been devoting considerable resources to helping third party vendors make their products better compatible with Windows, gradually improving performance over the last year.
Embedded with Obama
A Washington Post-ABC News survey has Obama and Clinton in a virtual tie among Democrats nationally, whereas just a week and a half ago Clinton had a double-digit lead in California and nationally. Clinton has been attracting similarly large crowds, so the likely result from Super Tuesday will be a fairly evenly split vote between the two frontrunners, meaning more state-by-state contests in the months ahead to try to break the deadlock. Given Obama's ability to make a strong pitch to a crowd, it would allow him more time to sway voters. One thing that has slipped from the mainstream 24-hour news cycle in the US has been the issue of race and gender. Obama as possibly the first African-American president or Clinton as the first woman in the Oval Office has captured many headlines.

The challengers need to have enough support on the board of selectmen to oust the town manager.Confident that Selectman George Dentino is one sure vote, recall supporters believe that replacing two other selectmen with two more like-minded members will get the job done. If this is accomplished we will be presented with a board whose majority would be focused on a negative mission a mission very much like those signs on the side of a store downtown. These types of missions are embarrassing, not to mention the political mire in which our town will be immersed. Such a board would find itself spending inordinate amounts of their time and our money on something that will eventually play itself out with next spring's town election. If the challengers prove victorious in this recall election, and act hastily on this issue, they could likely expose the town of Mansfield to even more liability.I know Bob Goldman.
