| Arunachal is 'our land of rising sun', says PM
Close on the heels of his visit to China, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday sent out a veiled message that Arunachal Pradesh is "our land of rising sun" for whose development he announced a number of schemes. "The sun kisses India first in Arunachal Pradesh. It is our land of rising sun," he said addressing a public meeting in Itanagar on his first day of his maiden visit to this border state, parts of which China claims are its territory. Asserting that the UPA government accorded the highest priority to the development of Arunachal Pradesh, Singh expressed confidence that the north eastern state would emerge as one of the best regions of the country. He announced launching of several schemes, including two power projects at Pare and Dibang, and provision of electricity to every households in the state.

Japan Rebounds to Close Up But Australia Slips
Japan ended higher Thursday, rebounding from early losses, but Australia closed lower, hitting a five-day low as investors remained sidelined after recent signs that the U.S. economy is headed into recession. Most Asian markets are closed for the Lunar New Year holiday Thursday and Friday. Markets in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan will all reopen Monday. The Chinese market will reopen Wednesday. .
D'Arrigo Bros., UFW reach accord after 32 years
After more than 30 years of gridlock, the United Farm Workers union and Salinas Valley vegetable firm DArrigo Brothers Co. have settled on a contract. The agreement, which took effect Oct. 21, was reached after a state labor board ordered the produce company to work with a mediator to resolve differences with the union. Employees had been working without a contract since agreeing to membership in the union in 1975. .
