| Camp Alegria Offers Retreat For Latinas Diagnosed With Cancer
If you are a Latina diagnosed with cancer, Campamento Alegria can offer the support, education and networking you need - in Spanish. It is the first oncology camp, providing all activities in Spanish, tailored to the Latina community.
The free camp is April 4-6 at Rotary's Camp Florida in Brandon. Space is limited to 100 women, and applications are due Feb. 29. To receive an application, call camp coordinator Dina Martinez at (813) 745-6812 during the day or at (813) 979-4291 during evenings and weekends.
Activities during the three-day retreat are presented in Spanish. Topics will include stress management, education sessions, meditation and yoga, healthy and beauty, exercise, dance, nutrition, arts and medicine.
Camp Alegria is designed to empower Latina cancer survivors.
2 more swans killed by bird flu
TWO more wild swans found dead on a reserve in Dorset have tested positive for the H5N1 strain of bird flu. Yesterday’s revelation by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs brings the number of birds found with the disease at the Abbotsbury Swannery, near to Chesil Beach, to nine. Defra warned further cases would not be unexpected and urged poultry keepers to watch for signs in their flocks. They said the strain of virus is similar to that found in Europe in the latter part of last year. Dead It is thought the disease was brought to Britain by an infected migratory bird and the first dead swans were discovered in December. More were found with the virus earlier this month. Restrictions on moving poultry and other captive birds in the area were imposed in the wake of the first positive tests — but were lifted last week.

So to say that voters only knew of Clinton going into Florida's primary because of name recognition and because the others did not campaign there, is more than an overstatement! If you think about the million voters who participated in Florida and realize that number is a fraction of registered democrat voters in the state, you start to realize that the primaries are not necessarily national indicators. Obama would lose big in Florida in November. Democrats who vote in primaries (ie. those that are more engaged in the contest) are clearly divided, therefore Obama has little chance of getting the nomination. Even if he did somehow get the nomination, does anyone doubt that the average midwestern white democrat would defect to McCain or another Republican? In the end the delegates will certainly go to Hillary if the Dem.
Bling meets strings in Allen resident's art guitars
Sarah Losinger had run out of wall space to place any more artwork. But that didn't stop her from visiting the gallery of her favorite artist, Amanda Dunbar. What she came across surprised her: painted guitars clad in Swarovski crystals. "I'd never seen anything like it," Ms. Losinger said. "Who'd think of using a guitar for a canvas? But then again, Amanda does everything out of the box." Ms. Dunbar is used to standing out. At 13, the Allen resident was dubbed an art prodigy, appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show and selling more than $500,000 in paintings in her first show. In 2006, at 23, she became the youngest inductee to the Texas Women's Hall of Fame. In addition, Ms. Dunbar's Angel Alliance charity has raised more than $1 million for various causes, including the Grammy MusiCares Foundation for Artists.
